Cried this morning after watching the peaceful violin vigils for #elijahmcclain in New York and Colorado (Colorado was met with excessive police force).
As an empath, I've been trying to guard my heart and mind from recent events. It's a difficult task, because I feel everything and everyone's emotions, as if they are my own.
I keep myself aware, but at a distance. I donate when I can, but I try not to let the pain engulf me. If I do, I could be paralyzed by it. This time, it crept in. His last words were heartbreaking. The life he lead was a beautiful one of kindness and the willingness to give wholeheartedly.
This loss is massive. The injustice is deafening.
With all of this said, I'm wondering how other empaths are coping at this time... And, even if you aren't an empath, it is practically impossible to lack empathy towards the current culture of society... unless you're narsisistic... or a racist. So, this song is for you too.
2. Set Boundaries and Create Shields of Protection
Create a mental shield against emotional events. When you are in a draining situation, use your shield to block out the emotions your body tries to absorb. Take your power back, instead of over-identifying with another. It is important to get centered and notice how I feel at the moment. It is also important to set boundaries with yourself and the people in your life. If you associate with someone or something draining (COUGH social media COUGH), limit the amount of time you send with them/it.
